c5Lab researchers publish an article in the “Journal of CO2 Utilization”
Researchers from the c5Lab and Instituto Superior Técnico recently published an article in the scientific journal “Journal of CO2 Utilization” result of a scientific research on the performance of wastes of marble powders and natural geological materials used as sorbents in CO2 capture, through Ca-looping technology. In this study, the sorbents’s CO2 capture capacity at a laboratory scale, using a real flue gas from a cement plant was evaluated, allowing the laboratory conditions to mimic possible future industrial applications.
The article concludes that the wastes of marble powders used as sorbents have an interesting potential to be used in the Ca-looping process under a real carbonation atmosphere, that appear as a possible economically attractive option, which can contribute to minimize the adverse environmental impacts of the high volume of Portuguese industrial wastes.
