ATIC (cement association), together with CIMPOR and SECIL (its associates), decided to partner with Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) - integrating the laboratory units (IDMEC, CQE, CERIS, CERENA and IN+) of its departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil and Environment, as well as the other institutes - and the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), to constitute the collaborative laboratory C5Lab.
ATIC, Cement Industry Technical Association, created in the 60s to promote a better use of cement, is the representative organization for the Portuguese cement industry.
Focusing on the monitoring of legislative procedures that have, directly or indirectly, impact on the cement industry, assumes the dissemination of the value created for society by products and construction solutions based on cement.

Since its inception, it actively collaborates with national institutions and companies in the development of products and in the implementation of new constructive and structural solutions focusing on the monitoring of legislative procedures
CIMPOR Portugal & Cabo Verde Operations, SGPS, S.A. is a Portuguese company that conducts its activity in the production, distribution and sale of cement, as well as, in ready-mix concrete & aggregates, hydraulic lime and dry mortar, making part of an international group, CIMPOR Global Holdings, BV with operations in Portugal, Turkey, Cape Verde and Western Africa.
CIMPOR, the national leader in the cement sector with roughly 60% of the market share, was created in March 1976 from the merger of seven Portuguese cement companies. Today, it holds three cement production plants in Portugal, located in Alhandra, Loulé, Souselas and a grinding station in Murtas (Azores), with an annual production capacity of 8.4 million tons, and several cement distribution centres, ready-mixed concrete, quarries and dry mortar facilities. CIMPOR has also a cement distribution centre in Cape Verde for the supply of the local market.
In 2019, CIMPOR was acquired by OYAK, its major current shareholder, one of the largest Turkish industrial groups, leader in its market, operating in seven geographical regions of Turkey, with an annual production capacity of 22.5 million tons of cement per year. CIMPOR has also a long record of accomplishment in sustainability having been one of the ten initial founding members of the former Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI), under the umbrella of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
Secil is a business Group whose activity is based on the production and sale of cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, mortars, prefabricated concrete structures and hydraulic lime. It also includes other companies operating in complementary areas such as the development of solutions in the field of environmental protection and the use of waste as an energy source.
The Secil group is consolidated in Portugal, where it originated, and has expanded over the past two decades to other markets. It currently operates three cement plants in Portugal (Outão, Maceira and Cibra) and is present abroad in Angola, Tunisia, Lebanon, Cape Verde, the Netherlands and Brazil.

LNEC, National Laboratory for Civil Engineering, is a public institute of Science and Technology (S&T), with the status of State Laboratory that carries out research in all fields of civil engineering, giving it a unique multidisciplinary perspective.
